I should have waited a bit longer b/f committing, apparently.

Your solution looks better to me, it includes much more than just XMLNS.  No 
sense in duplicating code _within_ a project.

However, I don't know how to move files around in in CVS.  So I'll need 
someones help with moving compat.py around.
