There is a tool called Rekall that tries to do that. 
By definition it sounds like what you are looking for.
 It even uses Python.  However, I am not sure of MAC
support.  And, although it is licensed under the GPL,
there seems to be a strong push to make you buy the
commercial version. If you want to investigate it
