I appreciate your work on this, but Markdown already has a commonly
accepted syntax for this. See PHP-Markdown Extra [1] for a nice
description. Additionally, as the official syntax (from JG) mentions
nothing of this behavior, it should be an optional addon, like it is
in PHP. Of course, Yuri will make the final call on that.
I started working on an extension for this some time ago, but ran into
some weirdness with the regex and haven't had the time to play with it
since. Perhaps I'll post what I had when I get home (assuming I still
have it and can find it).
