See section 7 of RFC1823.  I don't know what the semantics are. They are
simply converted into python exceptions. Perhaps they are better documented
in the OpenLDAP documentation?

The class inheritance heirarchy as I recall is

   + Exception
   	+ ldap.error
		+ ldap.SUCCESS			# never raised!
		+ ldap.OERATIONS_ERROR
		+ ldap.PROTOCOL_ERROR
		...
