Thanks folks: best free general Primary / Middle school software under Linux I could find till present.
Good to keep it as mostly visual over written because of language differences and small kids reading abilities.
As English is taught allmost every where, why not introduce an English spelling section in the style of "StarrSpell" for PC? They group the words by spelling patterns but also club similar vowel sounds - with different spelling! and give sound / picture / and word for spelling, using dozens of levels.

Thanks for your kind words.
StarSpell seems to be a pretty good program and I'm sure it took a lot of time and effort to create it. Currently my rather limited development time is focused on other tasks, but I’ll keep this idea in mind, and when the more burning issues are sorted out I’ll try to get back to it and create something spelling/phonics related as long as eSpeak pronunciation is good enough for a purpose like this. The latest version of the program has some activities with images + the spelling of what they represent, obviously this is not what you are asking for, but could be good to start with.
