It would be nice to support IPv6 network connections. eg: rfc2217://ipv6-only.host.com:7000/

Note that url's could also have literal ipv6 addresses according to rfc 2732, eg: rfc2217://[2001:DB8::1]:7000/

updated implementation at https://github.com/pyserial/pyserial
i think that should work now with socket.create_connection and urlparse
the socket:// and rfc2217:// URL handlers were updated
