I like how calling write now returns the number of bytes written, this is really helpful. However, there is a check in the code to see if the number of bytes written equals the length of data provided to the write function. When the serial port is configure for non-blocking writes, this will happen frequently and should not cause a write timeout error.

    I guess you were referring to pySerial on Windows. I've checked in a fix that avoids to do the check if write timeout is set to 0. Fix will be released in V2.6
