I'm not code-fu enough with PyQt yet to tell you how to handle this with
~ Python code, but the info.plist file is an important part of
associating your app with a file type (file extension).
I tested LyX, a Qt app, to see if it could handle this (not all Qt apps
do in my experience) and it does. Dragging a .lyx file to the Lyx icon
opens the file correctly.
I've attached the info.plist file from Lyx 1.3.5. Take a look at it,
especially the bits on "CFBundleType"--that's where you define the
document type/extension, the document icon, and the role your app plays
with that document (editor or viewer).
This has prompted me to take a look at my build of Eric3 and see if I
need to add that customization to its info.plist file to associate it
with .py files.
