By the way, you might like to go through these lectures. They are aimed at building three different parallel versions of computing the Mandelbrot fractal using pypar. http://datamining.anu.edu.au/~ole/work/teaching/summerschool2005/ The code is also available under demos/mandelbrot_example in the pypar distribution.
