When I try to run my app on a machine with no OpenGL drivers, I get
errors, but they are usually someont g mysterious.
What I'd like to do is check on startup if OPenGL support is there, so
I can give a nice useful error message to my users.
What's a good way to do that? i.e. check for driver support -- I can
handle the eror message.

You could try to create an OpenGL context and catch any
exceptions that arise.
