There isn't.  I also have no PYTHONPATH set.

Yes, exactly that.

Is this the problem?

# ls -l /usr/local/lib/python2.1/site-packages/OpenGL/GL/__init*
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     sys       571512 Sep 26 15:01
/usr/local/lib/python2.1/site-packages/OpenGL/GL/__init___.so
