Doesn't seem to be working though.  I tried:
mencoder "mf://*.jpg" -mf fps=25 -o output.avi -ovc lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:mbd=2:trell
on a directory of (valid) .jpgs and the resultant file does not play.
