An NSPoint is 2 floats . I'm guessing what we're seeing here is *rounding*. That is that 100000096.0 is the closest single-precision floating point value to 100000100. |

It actually seems like I didn't actual select the release build type in the project settings when building and that was my problem. Whether this was the problem or any other number of things I was messing with I'm unsure though. Regardless, I'm sorry for the unnecessary list traffic. Might as well add a plug. I do appreciate the work of the project very much though! It is awesome to be able to use python when writing cocoa apps. Thanks, Nathan On Sun, May 31, 2009 at 12:58 PM, Ronald Oussoren <ron...@ma...>wrote: > Nathan, > The traceback below doesn't include the information needed to pinpoint the > issue. Nathan, The traceback below doesn't include the information needed to pinpoint the issue. The console.app logs on the "other" mac should show a Python stacktrace that should help debugging the issue. Another option is to run flickrmirror.app/Contents/MacOS/flickrmirror from the terminal, that way the stacktrace gets printed in the terminal window. How did you build the application bundle, do you use Xcode or py2app? If you use the former you should add a buildphase that copies requirements into the application bundle as well, otherwise your application might depend on modules in the site-packages directory on your build machine. Hello, not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I'm having an issue distributing my application. Everything works in development on my machine; although, we I make a release and try it out on another mac I keep getting an exception thrown. Is there some special way I have to go about releasing a pyobjc application? I just hope it is something stupid that I'm overlooking. Any help or insight into the problem would be greatly appreciated. The error is this, > Process: flickrmirror [8552] > Path: /Applications/flickrmirror. > app/Contents/MacOS/flickrmirror > Identifier: flickrmirror > Version: ??? I provide precompiled binaries that will be used if you have Python 2.6.2 from the python.org site (that's what I used to build those eggs). It seems that 2.6.1 still contains a bug that makes it use the wrong platform string in distutils, which might explain your problem. I'm also looking in a way to make the build machinary not look into / usr/local for dependencies, but that's harder than I'd like. Ronald |

Oh, please, I'm in this situation: python 2.6 from python.org, OSX 10.5. Two things: setuptools (if I'm right) build C extensions against the 10.4u SDK and not 10.5, and chokes on intel only libraries that it needs to link the stub against. Where, in python, setuptools I think, can I tweak those compiler defaults: -isysroot /Developper/.../10.4u -arch i386 -arch ppc to: -isysroot /Developper/.../10.5 -arch i386 I know pyobjc will fail compiling if I can't change it. If the linker looks for a library and stops at the first filename that matches without looking if it is for the right architecture. That means that if you happen to have a PPC library in /usr/local/lib and the compiler was actually looking for an intel one the search stops at the PPC library and you get a link error. If you have installed Python using the installer from the python.org site the situation is slightly more complicated: that installs a universal binary, which is a fat binary that contains both intel and ppc versions of the code. This means that all libraries that get linked into extensions must also be universal binaries and if they aren't you'll get link errors. > > So... is this a bug, or am I doing something stupid? Once you have defined an ObjC class the bridge will for ever keep a reference to that class in an internal cache. You cannot work around that, because it is important to do this to ensure the bridge can work at all. Do you know when the crash occurs, in your own code of somewhere in Apple code? Gdb should be able to tell you that, at least if you can get your code to run in gdb (see http://bugs.python.org/setuptools/issue70 for that). One thing that might cause problems is when you pass instances of the mock class to Apple code that expects a subclass of CAlayer. When your mock class is not such a subclass Apple's code could crash (and that's not a bug in Apple's code or PyObjC, just a reminder on how nice it is to develop in Python instead of a pretty low-level compiled language). Hi, as part of unit-testing our PyObjC app, I'm trying to use mocks for some Obj-C classes, to make things easier. Unfortunately it leads to a segmentation fault. Even more annoyingly I can't reproduce for a simple case. Here's what the pattern looks like: from package import module as aModule original = aModule.CALayerSubclass milestoneModule.CALayerSubclass = Mock() in 'module', we have, among others, the following: ...more from Foundation import * from AppKit import * from Quartz import * from other.another import CALayerSubclass ...more and other.another has just these imports: import sys from math import ceil from AppKit import * from Foundation import * from Quartz import * A similar situation, when extracted to three python modules and run works fine, so it's probably an interaction somewhere else. Any pointers to what I should be looking at are welcome! I tried fiddling with sys.modules, in the suspicion that something somewhere is keeping a reference to the original class, but to no avail. Hi, I've just pushed out a new beta release for PyObjC 2.2. This version should install without problems using "easy_install pyobjc==2.2b2", and fixes some other smallish issues as well. Support for OSX 10.4 is still fairly minimal: pyobjc-core and a number of framework wrappers do build on Tiger, but there are a lot of test failures (although a large subset of those are caused by issues in the test framework). Support for OSX 10.6 is non-existant for now due to the obvious reason ;-) Ronald |

Given the limitations of the iPhone I don't see the benefits of doing a supported port to that platform (slow CPU, very little memory, no long-running processes), even if the SDK would allow that. First thank you to all the people who created pyObjc. I would like to use the ZODB in an iphone app without jailbreaking my phone. I expect that most users would not want to jailbreak their phones. Because python is compiled with gcc, which xcode uses, I would think that I could link in the python libraries, build the app on Mac OS X, with XCode, and download and run my app on the iphone. Is this possible? Am I missing something. Regards Christopher Lozinski |

Hello, I'm compiling current SVN, at several point, Quartz-2.2b2 is tried to be downloaded and fail. So I've downloaded 2.2b1 by hand. When trying to compile it, I stumble on this one. gcc -arch ppc -arch i386 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -dynamic -DNDEBUG -g -O3 -I/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/include/python2.6 -c Modules/_callbacks.m -o build/temp.macosx-10.3-fat-2.6/Modules/_callbacks.o Modules/_callbacks.m:422: error: syntax error before ‘m_CGDataProviderSequentialCallbacks’ If I modify the above gcc line like the following: philou@bookpro:~/src/py/pyobjc-framework-Quartz-2.2b1$ gcc -arch ppc -arch i386 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -dynamic -DNDEBUG -g -O3 -I/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/include/python2.6 -c Modules/_callbacks.m -o build/temp.macosx-10.3-fat-2.6/Modules/_callbacks.o It compiles fine. Where do I tweak, locally or globaly, the -isysroot arg used, the -arch used for building python stub? Thanks, best regards. |

I'm trying to make my program log every event that happens. I'm probably doing it wrong. What I'm trying is: oldIMP = NSResponder.instanceMethodForSelector_('mouseDown:') newIMP = objc.selector(lambda self, e: NSLog('%s: %s'%(self,e)), selector=oldIMP.selector, signature=oldIMP.signature) objc.classAddMethod(NSResponder, 'mouseDown:', newIMP) This works great - but only for clicking in places on the window that don't already do anything. When I click on a NSButton, for example, I don't get anything logged. I can go through and do the above for every subclass of NSResponder in my program, but that gets a little bit pesky, especially because it looks like I'd have to separately do it for things like the headers of NSTableViews and so forth. Is there a better way? dan |

I'm planning to release pyobjc 2.2b2 next weekend, that should also fix the build issues people are having with the Python.org distribution. Ronald |

Jonas, The following workaround should work until I commit a proper fix: After: w = ... # Some NSWindow a = w.animator() a.pyobjc_ISA a.setAlphaValue_(1.0) That is, fetch the "pyobjc_ISA" attribute of the animation proxy after you create that proxy. A quick test on the command-line seems to indicate that this fixes the problem. You don't need to store the result of fetching the attribute, a side-effect of fetching "pyobjc_ISA" is what "fixes" the problem. This is obviously just a workaround, I need to check why the type of the animation proxy is not correct when it is created and fix that issue. Jonas, This looks like a bug in PyObjC. I've added this to my todo list.
