If I may add my opinion as a lurker: I like the tla/arch philosophy better than svn or cvs myself, but it _is_ an investment to learn, and I suspect I would be less prone to small, regular commits in a tla repository, which I believe are a good thing. The CVL tool issue you raised with svn is also present with tla. I do agree that, if we change, tla currently offers more interesting add-ons than svn, by virtue of its design. But it is also much less mainstream, so add-ons are also likely to come fast to svn. If tools are decisive, I vote to stay with cvs until the situation evolves with tla and svn; otherwise, +1 for tla by virtue of design, but we would need a strong community buy-in, as there very much is a learning curve.
