I'll try to find time to respond to some of the other points in detail 
(as it is both very interesting, quite pertinent, and is making me 
think really hard about why I have the opinions that I do), but the 
above makes it all somewhat moot.

This sounds good to me-- I'm going to continue to use the compiled main 
in the context of the Project Builder project templates and I'll leave 
it to you/Jack/etc to come up with whatever works best for the 
standalone method of building apps (and I'll use it quite 
enthusiastically, when appropriate).
