#48 ./configure does not find installed libglut in ubuntu Hardy

Trying to install the most recent trunk from Pymol, I get bumped off on the first step.
The command ./configure results into this error.

checking for main in -lglut... no
Missing libglut.

Yet, it is installed: the apt-get confirms that freeglut3 is already installed.
Furthermore, the locate command shows the location of all related files:

user@desktop:~/pymol/trunk/pymol$ locate libglut
/usr/lib/libglut.so.3
/usr/lib/libglut.so.3.8.0
