I'm running PyMOL compiled via fink on OSX 6.3 on an elderly MacBook
Pro. The OS is full 64-bit.
When I start PyMOL, the viewer opens on the laptop screen. Pulling the
viewer window to the main external screen crashes all applications and
logs me out. I doesn't take down the OS, though. After a couple of
seconds, I'm greeted with the logon screen.
This happens with XQuartz 2.3.5 (which came with Snow Leopard) and
XQuarz 2.5.0 (which I subsequently installed). Both X servers run in
64-bit. I haven't found another X11 application with this behavior,
and, crucially, the external GUI can be moved between screens with impunity.
Obviously, it's a bit annoying to be limited to the teeny laptop screen.
Does anyone have a suggestion of how to overcome this?
