An example of what I have been able to do is this:

I like using this type of rendering to look at a protein cavity from
inside the protein. For me it has been helpful in presenting the VDWs
interaction of ligands in the pocket.
To render this picture:
set surface_color, slate
set ray_interior_color, grey
set transparency, .3
set transparency_mode, 0
ray
The one thing that kinda bothers me with this approach is that
transparency_mode=3D0 is called fast and ugly in the GUI. But this is
the only way that i have found to get this effect. Other ( better )
suggestions would be appreciated.
