Stephen,

set ray_interior_color, color-name
ray

or

set ray_interior_color, -5
ray

to get an an effect like in that figure where the interiors are
different colors (on a per-object basis, or simply recolor afterwards in
Photoshop).

Note that the entire interior needs to be within the clip slab in order
for this to work.
