Hello, I have just installed PyMCA and am trying to use it to analyze some data collected with the Thermo Omnic software. I see that there is an OMNIC .map file reader in the IO folder, and if I run that file using Python directly, it outputs the data and information about the file, but when I try to open a .map file in the GUI, I receive an error. Is there some conversion step that I am missing that needs to be performed before loading into the GUI? Thanks, Josh -- Joshua Taillon, Ph.D. Materials Measurement Science Division National Institute of Standards and Technology 100 Bureau Drive, MS-8372 Gaithersburg, MD 20899 W: (301) 975-2913 E: jos...@ni...<mailto:jos...@ni...> |

Hello, OMNIC .map files can only be used with the ROI Imaging Tool of PyMca and not from the main window. You can access the ROI Imaging Tool from the Tools menu of the Main Window or typing pymcaroitool from the command line. Have you already tried that? If that does not work there is a problem. Please let us know. Thanks, Armando. I can indeed open the file with the ROI Imaging Tool. Another question: our Omnic software saves two .map files when we save the data. A smaller one with the name we chose, and a larger one (about 4x the size) with a suffix "_Ifg". Do you know what this file is? It cannot be opened using the Omnic reader in PyMCA. Using ROI imaging for FTIR.pdf

Dear Josh, the .ifg is the interferogram file (the signal obtained before Fourier Transform: intensity vs time=mirror motion). Generally we analyze only the FT signal (=intensity vs wavenumber). We never asked Armando to implement the reading of _ifg files since this is not usually required by our users. Please find attached a document shortly describing the main specificities of ROI imaging for OMNIC maps (document written 7 years ago so the PyMca version was a bit different but you should manage to find back the different tools).
