First off, I don't have a 770. I do have the development environment setup and running fine, though. Python for Maemo runs fine, too - I've got the beginnings of my app (a port of my low-bandwidth IMAP client, Polymer) working, and come to terms with GTK+, etc. So far, so good. I'd like to start pushing out something for people to try, but I have two problems: 1) I've seen reports that you can't actually install Python for Maemo on a real 770. That would be a bit of a showstopper for me. Some people seem to suggest that you can, but you have to flash the thing into R&D mode, and that's no good at all for the majority of people. 2) Appviews just don't seem to work. I can programmatically switch them, but most of the time, my app doesn't appear in the task list at all, and on the rare occasions it does, it only shows one appview. (That happens to be the summary appview, curently.) None of the registration functions appear to be present, so I can't register them anyway. Dave. -- You see things; and you say "Why?" Hi Scot, I think that it's a maemo rootstrap problem (and we are working to fix this problem). The workaround for this problem is: $ sbox-config -cc This command will copy scratchbox glibc over rootstrap glibc. Thanks, Osvaldo On 9/7/05, Scot McSweeney-Roberts <py...@mc...> wrote: > I've installed the Maemo SDK and Xephyr and then pymaemo, pygtk and > pyhildon. I've installed the Maemo SDK and Xephyr and then pymaemo, pygtk and pyhildon. Everything mostly went ok installing the python stuff, except that I needed to turn libfakeroot.so.0 into a symbolic link to get python 2.4 installed and python-2.4-gtk-modules comes up with an error about "trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/compat.py', which is also in package python2.4-gtk2". Even with those problems, running the hello_world.py script from the pyGTK tutorial runs fine, so I assumed everything is installed and running well. However, when I import the hildon package, I get the following error: ImportError: /scratchbox/compilers/host-gcc/lib/librt.so.1: symbol __librt_disable_asynccancel, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference Any ideas? cheers Scot |

Hey there, I had the opportunity to hold a 770 for a few seconds this last Saturday. It looks pretty sweet. I also see on http://pymaemo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/ that PyGTK + Hildon has been ported and [alpha?]-released. I was wondering a) If you would like to start working on getting the patches merged upstream, b) If Osvaldo's .defs-generator is being made publically-available. Let us know how to get these things moving. Take care, -- Christian Robottom Reis | http://async.com.br/~kiko/ | [+55 16] 3376 0125 |
