The IDE for ITTVIS's IDL (aka IDLDE) works very poorly on Linux, and besides, it wasn't open-source enough! So I made a Qt-based editor in Python that works reasonably well. It calls IDL library functions directly and embeds it in the graphical interface just like the original IDE. It was not easy to get that working at all, so expect bugs.
It provides instant help by pressing the F1 key and auto-completion by pressing Ctrl+Space and a bunch of other stuff. Pretty much everything is documented in the README file.
