[Pydev-code] Origin of various python files in PyDev

Hi Fabio,

I'm packaging PyDev for Fedora and one of the issues that came up was  
the origin and licensing of some of the python files that come with  
PyDev. I was hoping that you'd be able to help me out in  
understanding what these files are used for and wether it's OK to use  
the versions that are already in Fedora.

org.python.pydev.jython/Lib contains 125 files, of them 112 seem to  
come from the python distribution, 19 seem to come from the jython  
distribution, with 11 of them being shared. These 11 have some  
differences among them. The other 5 files seem to be from older  
distributions of python (older than 2.5) and no longer exist in 2.5.

My question is, what versions of Python/Jython are these files from  
and what is their use in PyDev? Would it be safe for me to link these  
files with the files that come with the stock Python 2.5 or Jython  
2.2beta1 distributions?

Similarly, the files in org.python.pydev/PySrc. Some of them are  
clearly developed specifically for pydev, but some others seem to  
come from elsewhere.

Well, pydev has a good number of tests that are run on code-changes (just
right-click a project and do a 'run as > junit test').

1:There's a reference in the instructions to settings up a template file 
- I couldn't find the template suggested ? Ideas?

2: If I make some changes, how do people test their changes? I guess it 
would be another Eclipse plugin, but how would you test it?

One thing : i use eclipse from source (not ubuntu package).

I'm unable to reproduce 1) in reliable way at the moment (I noticed it
just yesterday, so it still requires a little more investigation).

I've a project named PAFlow, with controllers as a subdirectory.

I then search "def action" with global search. Now, when I double
click on any of the result inside the controllers subdirectory, a null
is substituted. Instead, if I double click on a result outside of it,
I have no problem.

If needed, I can provide my .pydevproject, or the whole project (after
all, it is open source software ;-))

One more thing: I've PyDev-package explorer activated, but using the
normal navigation at this point.

I agree... those things should work, but I'm unable to determine what's
causing that (guess I'll have to install that version of ubuntu here and
test it here... keep an eye on that bug report)

Do you think you can reliably reproduce the error? (I think it might be
related to the pydev package explorer... but I'm unable to reproduce it
here...)

1) unreliability of search: in conditions which are difficult for me
to determine, the search in files does not find what I'm looking for;

2) while browsing the results of the search, the name of the file in
the Search window is changed in "null".

off, like comments (ctrl - 3) or Show Class Browser (Ctrl - Shift -
T).

You need to use the coverage module at org.python.pydev.debug/pysrc/coverage.py
to access that info.

what I can do with them :-)

I would like to know, however, how I can access them outside of pydev
itself. I know where the .coverage file is, and I've tryied to use the
pstats module, but with no success.

Hi,

you probably used sifsstud2.hsr.ch as update site as well?
Please uninstall it first before updating to PyDev 1.2.9.

Menu "Help" -> Software Updates -> Manage configuration

Then right-click on the feature and select "Uninstall".
