#1245 No way to use selection with templates

The template editor has two variables referencing the current editor selection but it is not possible to trigger a template replacement from a selection without breaking it first so the use of the variables is impossible. This is on version 1.6.3. I cannot select this version from the Group menu for bug report of SourceForge.
