There is a newer version of this page. You can find it here.

pyBedsideClock is a Python application that works like a bedside clock.

It is designed to run using Python www.python.org which is like an engine for running Python scripts (special text files). Python is free to download from the project's home page and is a great fun language to learn.

Please feel free to download and use this application.

It has the ability to play a wave file for a period of time before turning off, or shutting down the machine (such as playing nature sounds while you are trying to sleep). It also has the ability the set multiple alarms, which can repeat on chosen days of the week. Alarms are saved to file so that they don't have to be added again. Alarms only work while application is running.

Time and date is displayed in large clear writing.

In the latest release a bug has been fixed that cause the application to crash on Python 2. (Sorry I should have tested better :-(). Also I've zipped the application file so that a download will work better with your browser, as before it was dumping the file contents into the window instead of downloading the file properly. This will mean that you need to unpack the compressed file first.

If you want free sound files and don't want to record your own I suggest you check out http://www.freesound.org. This is where I get most of mine. You might even want to sample some of your own :-).

Enjoy!
