Hi, Recently I am trying to migrate from 2.6.35 linux version to 2.6.38. My embedded target is based on PXA255. After successfully compiling, I am unable to run the kernel. Using BDI2000, I can see that execution stops after trying to access MSC1 registers. Below is the code snippet from both the versions. Can anyone suggest me what might be the issue or the way to debug it further? 2.6.35 version: MSC0 = 0x97780000 | (MSC0 & 0xffff); MSC1 = 0x00007f8c | (MSC1 & 0xffff0000); MSC1 = 0x023c0000 | (MSC1 & 0x0000ffff); 2.6.38 version: msc0 = __raw_readl(MSC0); __raw_writel((msc0 & 0xFFFF) | 0x97780000, MSC0); msc1 = __raw_readl(MSC1); __raw_writel((msc1 & 0xFFFF0000) | 0x00007f8c, MSC1); msc1 = __raw_readl(MSC1); __raw_writel((msc1 & 0x0000FFFF) | 0x023c0000, MSC1); Thanks!!! |

I have linuc kerne 2.4.19 source code for the same board and file system source and image also. I also want to add ssh in file system. i dont have any idea how to do that and add ssh to file system. after all the process how to transfer images on the board through TFTP. please help me and prove the sources from where i can get all details about these. Failing that, what makes driscoll-binutils > different from binutils? I suspect Stanley Cai built that toolchain. With my patch probably! :-) You will be fine with a current mainline binutils. You can build your own toolchain easily with crosstool, I don't know if it contains the iWMMXt patch so I've attached it for you. Personally I use Gentoo which has it's own cross-toolchain support. > > I would like to see if I can run 2.6.19.1 without EABI or WMMXT > optimizations, to see if that is what is causing the problem. Just to be clear EABI and WMMXT are not optimizations when building the kernel. EABI is the ABI the kernel is compiled with and the userspace ABI it then supports (though there is also a backwards compatibility option for OABI userspace support with the EABI kernel). The kernel actually doesn't get optimized for iWMMXt either, but if you are building for a iWMMXt capable target it includes support for managing the save/restore of the WMMX registers over context switches etc. So you should make sure that your kernel is correctly configured for your system, whatever that it is? EABI works OK with a recent toolchain (gcc-4.1.0 and later) though you will want to use a few patches that you'll find in cross-tool that fix a few issues (ASoC audio doesn't build correctly without a gcc patch for example). > > Please, any help would be much obliged. > Regards, > Warren Seymour > Steve ___________________________________________________________ Win tickets to the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany with Yahoo! OK, I successfully installed the toolchain mentioned in a previous post. I am attempting to build kernel 2.6.19.1 and having trouble. Using the NPTL EABI WMMXT toolchain, I am able to successfully compile the kernel. However, after u-boot extracts the image and attempts to boot it (ie prints 'Kernel Starting') nothing else hangs. So, I am trying to build kernel 2.6.19.1 using the arm-linux-toolchain-bin-12-15-04-driscoll toolchain instead. However, 2.6.19.1 requires at least binutils 2.16. So, I would like to try the older toolchain but with driscoll-binutils upgraded from 2.14.90 to driscoll-binutils-2.16.92. However, the only place I can locate this is wrapped up as part of the NPTL EABI WMMXT toolchain. Where did the NPTL EABI WMMXT toolchain come from? How can I go about assembling it from source? Failing that, what makes driscoll-binutils different from binutils? I would like to see if I can run 2.6.19.1 without EABI or WMMXT optimizations, to see if that is what is causing the problem. Please, any help would be much obliged. Regards, Warren Seymour |

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Stanley Cai <sta...@gm...> Date: Oct 16, 2006 11:22 AM Subject: upgrade to MMC subsystem To: ARM Linux Kernel Mailing List <lin...@li...>, 'rm...@ar...' Cc: sta...@in..., cha...@in..., tod...@in... Hi all, We made some enhancement to the current MMC framework and setup a web page "MSS framework". (http://pxa-linux.sf.net/mss.htm). We think our work may benefit all the users of the kernel MMC infrastructures. If you have comment or feedback, please kindly send them to us. We will appreciate it. Basically, we separated the driver (block device) and protocol layer out of the MMC framework. We added multiple card support into the framework, because in some usages, the hardware has several MMC/SD/SDIO slots. The work is far from completion. We keep updating the code. :) 1. modify the code to make the interfaces compatible with the existing MMC interface. 2. Port them to more platforms. 3. Bring up with more device drivers and protocol drivers. Again, thanks for your attention. -- Best regards, -stanley http://pxa-linux.sf.net -- PXA Linux information centre -- Best regards, -stanley http://pxa-linux.sf.net -- PXA Linux information centre |

FYI. A patch for PXA serial driver. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Todd Blumer <sdg...@gm...> Date: Oct 7, 2006 2:44 AM Subject: PXA serial change To: lin...@li... I hate to bring up this issue again, but here goes. I would really like it if we could change the internal PXA serial ports as follows (or similar, given that the devfs stuff is now removed): Index: drivers/serial/pxa.c =================================================================== RCS file: /cvs/linux/kernel26/drivers/serial/pxa.c,v retrieving revision 1.28.2.1 diff -u -r1.28.2.1 pxa.c --- drivers/serial/pxa.c 14 Jun 2006 12:21:02 -0000 1.28.2.1 +++ drivers/serial/pxa.c 6 Oct 2006 18:15:46 -0000 @@ -756,7 +756,7 @@ } static struct console serial_pxa_console = { - .name = "ttyS", + .name = "ttySA", .write = serial_pxa_console_write, .device = uart_console_device, .setup = serial_pxa_console_setup, @@ -862,10 +862,10 @@ static struct uart_driver serial_pxa_reg = { .owner = THIS_MODULE, .driver_name = "PXA serial", - .devfs_name = "tts/", - .dev_name = "ttyS", + .devfs_name = "ttsa/", + .dev_name = "ttySA", .major = TTY_MAJOR, - .minor = 64, + .minor = 64 + CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS, .nr = ARRAY_SIZE(serial_pxa_ports), .cons = PXA_CONSOLE, }; For handhelds, I get tired of dealing with the fact that 8250.ko and pxa.ko don't play nicely together. This change obviously moves the namespace of pxa.c to ttySAx. The upside is that 8250 code doesn't need to be touched and serial-based CF cards like GPS and modems just work. The downside is that all of the handhelds' /etc scripts that use ttySx (console, BT, sometimes IrDA) need to change. For the iPAQ hx4700, that's just a couple of files (inittab, hciattach, and kernel boot line). Thus, I think that's pretty minor. As a side note, the i.MX serial driver uses ttySMX as the prefix and it works well. Any hope of getting this changed in the near future? Or, maybe I missed something and this problem has been resolved since 2.6.15?
