Redundancy of a transducer can be handled a number of ways - and I think that we understand none of them well enough to build in mechanisms to support it.

My favorite is this one
At the device layer --- read two addresses - and determine there if either or both are good. Forward the reading determined to be good. 

It is part of the hardware configuration, not part of a configurable database.

In any case, this is not something we are going to solve in the next 4 months.
