Excessive downloading problem discussed by owners of put.io

I was having convcersation with the owners of PUT.IO servers and he asked if I was using this program. He said its a fin program but that sometimes the program will download the same files over and over and over.
After a little checking, example... Heres my setup..
I have auto downloading from a folder setup. I have it set to delete the files on the server after the download is finished. If I reboot andrestart the program, I find it will start downloading certian files again that should have been deleted. So I log into the ftp of the server and see some of the files ARE still there! So it tries to dwonload them again. I know in the program you can have it skip already downloaded files, but that part of the program is broken. Just like the speed limit is broken. So to keep the program from continously downloading, I always goto my pt downlaod manager "temp" folder on my computer and delete the files in there and then log into the server and delete them there. Just a heads up on a problem that was brought up.
Suggestion, maybe have someway that when your program is to delete the files, put a timer on it so it gos back in 60 seconds and reruns the delete command and a delete all from the temp folder on the computer it is downloading to...
Thank you for a good program though. It is just exactly what I need and very lightweight. I do however wish the speed limit worked though because it sure slows my connection down...

      Hi Richard,

Thanks for your problem report and feedback.

Since I do not know your exact configuration I can only answer with my assumptions. Here are my points:

      1. Why are the files not being deleted after download is complete?

There could be two possible reasons for this problem. First one is the temporary connection issues. If the program is having connection issues at the moment of delete operation, it could fail. With connection issues I do not mean only a real problem at your internet connection. If the bandwidth is fully occupied because of other parallel downloads, it could also cause a connection issue for delete operation. Second possible reason is the CRC32 check. If you have "Do not delete file on server if CRC32 yuto check fails" option ON (under Preferences >> CRC32 tab), delete operation is not performed after a CRC32 failure. This check sometimes fails even the file was downloaded successfully (I do not know why). However you can see that "delete" is failed on the result screen at both these scenarios.

My suggestion would be that you can check your CRC32 preferences.

      1. Download session: You wrote, after exiting and starting program later, already downloaded files are downloaded again (since they were not deleted after their downloads). That's actually an expected behavior itself. Program has a download session inside. If you restart it, the session was reset. So program downloads all files in selected directories, since previous session is gone. "Do not ask if file already downloaded. Apply follwing:" option works and was also designed for the download session. Therefore it is not the right option for your case. However there is another option at the same tab which fits better in your case: "Do not ask if file already exists on disc. Apply following:". If you choose here "Skip in case of same size and delete on server", already downloaded files are not downladed again and also deleted on put.io servers. And if delete fails because of connections issues etc., it will be repeated on next server check. This options seems really to be the solution for your problem with download traffic.

      2. Speed limit: You are right. After reading your problem report, I tested it several times. Sometimes it works as expected but sometimes not. I have to investigate it more deeply to find the cause and solution. Thanks for reporting!

      I hope I could help.

      Günhan
