Dear Sir/Madam:
My PD version is 0.42.5, It worked fine until yesterday. The problem is indicated as below:
I put a single oscillator (osc~ or cos~) and linked to dac~. Turn on the DSP and it starts making a high pitch noise sinewave like noise even the input frequency is set to 0Hz. If I modulate the frequency and the amplitude, the background noise seems to be modulated as well.
I did the testtone and it appears to be normal with no noise.
Please help.
All the best.

Please provide as detailed information as possible including which operating system (OS), CPU type, specific hardware, and the exact distro and version of Pd itself, etc.

    For example:

    Pd version 0.41.4-extended
    Mac OS X 10.5.7/Intel
    built-in sound

It it the Pd Version 0.42.5 - extended
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    Built-in Sound.
    CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10GHz

Also, the PD (version 0.43) on my laptop (Mac OS 10.7.2/intel, CPU Intel core i5, 2.4Ghz) stops working as well. It keep crashing very time I launch the software. The only common is that I used Matlab on both computers yesterday. Before that, they were all running perfectly.

i don't think the 2 issues are related (if you think the 2nd to be a general Pd bug, please submit a new ticket; else you could ask for more direct help on the mailinglist, the IRC or the forum)

could you check your audio preferences again?
eventually change the settings there, and see whether it helps.

also, could you try Pd-vanilla (0.43, 0.42) and see whether the same problem persists?

I tried Vanilla and the same problem happens again. And the audio preference as well, but nothing seems to work. My colleague is using the same computer system and same software version, but it seems to work fine on his. That is really strange.

My guess is that this problem comes from your sound hardware in your computer. Is it only Pd that does this? What about other programs that make sound? You could also try a beta build:

I'm really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it's rare to see a nice blog like this one these days..
