#4 fixing directory attributes?

After successfully backing up to an external firewire disk, Psyncx
goes on to "fix" attributes, which effectively deletes the target
files or changes the EOF to zero. Here is the transition as shown
in the log:

I don't know Unix or Linux; I'm just a user. What's going on and
how can I stop it?
