Thanks Josh for keeping our memory alive! Right. The use cases were: 1) point to spectra of interest within the full list and annotate them with some data (as you said, list "good" or "bad" scans) 2) associate information to only a portion of a spectrum (for instance charge states of some fragment ions, labels or annotations to specific peaks) Therefore clearly optional, but specs need to be done in case of use.
