All the PS2 source was kindly provided by su...@sn... its the GNUPro version with r5900 stuff, you can compile it with cgywin on windows or run in linux etc. now3d Joseph Paris wrote: > > I was wondering if there was an easy way of executing ee-dvp-as on an > intel machine. Sony is selling the PS2/Linux kit in Japan, which comes with a bootable Linux DVD. There is no method of creating bootable CD-ROMs. M. R. |

I was wondering if there was an easy way of executing ee-dvp-as on an intel machine. It's the assembler for the vector processing unit. Thanks, Joe |

Some r5900 support is already in the linux-mips tree and Lethal is still cleaning Sony's crust of a port :). You probably want to focus your efforts on the linux-mips tree (linux-mips.sf.net). Also, Lethal and I have a private CVS tree against linux-mips that we're using to test experimental stuff. But diverging the tree in this manner will certainly cause problems down the road as you'll end up w/ 3 different MIPS trees. Just do everything off of linux-mips (who regularly send Ralf patches) and you'll be ok. M. R. |

Hi folks, CVS is available at sourceforge now. CVSROOT is cvs.ps2hacking.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/ps2hacking, and the repository is 'linux2.4'. The patch I announced last week is equal to current CVS tree. The tree needs to be hacked more. as far as I know, there are following todos. please let me/us know if you are interested in working on some areas. o Ethernet is only ported device at present... framebuffer, (Xserver and DRM !?), IDE, USB, and more are waiting for you B) o test and set device (drivers/char/tst_dev.c) is broken. It is my understanding that this hack will improve performance of applications that needs extensive use of atomic lock operations (multithread, databases etc) on inexpensive MIPSes without LL/SC instructions. o various PlayStation2 specific code needs being ported, redesign, or/and removal... o I guess cache flushing operation can be optimized more. (arch/mips/mm/r5900.c) o need to adapt to the new architecture in the Linux/MIPS tree. for Linux/MIPS integration, we should use arch/mips/kernel/time.c, arch/mips/kernel/irq.c and so on instead of old codes for linux-2.2 in arch/mips/ps2 o cleanup various macro and fix 128bit register support in assembler code and some header files. I will try this next month. o catch up to the Linux/MIPS secondary tree. o (... and more? please comment.) ... and have fun! --- Takahide HIGUCHI e-mail: tak...@hi... |

We had this discussing on the mips mailing list earlier. We agree. Sony did nasty things I like to see cleaned up. Please make your tree again our mips tree. We have some new "designs" you can take adavantage like new pci handling code. Thank you. P.S I'm going to be on vaction and I will not be back for one week. My first vacation in 7 years:-) You have Paul's email address so have fun. |

PS2 tree is very dirty, unstable and many broken sources are included at present. There are some (weird) macros for CPU bug workaround, and 128bit support does not compile yet. Hi folks, Finally Linux-2.4 kernel booted on PlayStation2 ! patch and binary is available at following URI: http://developer.hima.gr.jp/playstation2/patch-2.4.6ps2.0823.bz2 (bzipped patch for stock linux-2.4.6 kernel source) http://developer.hima.gr.jp/playstation2/vmlinux_246_0823.elf.bz2 (bzipped vmlinux. please uncompress before use) To compile the patched source, try following steps: $ cp arch/mips/defconfig-PlayStation2 .config; \ make ARCH=mips CROSS_COMPILE=/crossgcc_in_somewhere/bin/mipsEEel-linux- \ oldconfig dep clean vmlinux At present, you have to configure your network so that root file system can be mounted via NFS. 0. prepare NFS and BOOTP server on your network. 1. copy (whole) userland on PS2 Linuxkit to the NFS server and export them. 'no_root_squash' option is needed. 2. (optional) rebuild 2.2.1ps2 kernel with nfs-root and CONFIG_IP_PNP_BOOTP support, then test whether your nfs-root configuration works. 3. replace /nfsroot/rc.d/rc.sysinit with following shell script: --------------------- #!/bin/sh mount -n -t proc proc /proc &>/dev/null & mount -t nfs -n -o remount,rw 192.168.x.x:/nfsroot / &>/dev/null & mount -n -o rw,gid=5,mode=620 -t devpts devpts /dev/pts &>/dev/null & /etc/rc.d/rc7.d/S10network start &>/dev/null & /etc/rc.d/rc7.d/S50inet start &>/dev/null & /usr/sbin/inetd &>/dev/null & /bin/sh --------------------- 4. edit p2lboot.cnf on your memory card. my configuration is following: "vmlinux-246" vmlinux.elf "" 203 /dev/nfs "root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=192.168.1.1:/nfsroot,rw ip=::::::bootp" vmlinux-246 if you are using redboot.elf-010726, boot option given to redboot is passed thru to the kernel. 5. don't forget to remove or rename /nfsroot/dev/tst (*** THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT !!! *** ) 6. boot the (redboot then) kernel. you will see dmesg on the screen. you can check whether bootp and nfs-root are working. 7. (if you still wonder if things are working, use tcpdump etc.) 8. wow, it's show time! takahide@platinum:~/kernel/linux-2.4.6$ cp vmlinux /tftpboot;telnet dhcp1 9000 Trying 192.168.1.17... Connected to dhcp1.local. Escape character is '^]'. Hi! I working on a mips tree for 2.4.X and I seen PS@ info was released. So was are considering placing it inot our mips tree. Does anyone know what the NDA and license issues are? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Crap can work. Given enough thrust pigs will fly, but it's not necessary a good idea. [ Alexander Viro on linux-kernel ] |

Hi! In the last few weeks, I've been working on Debianizing the PS2 Linux Kit in order to create a more confortable working environment. I think we all do agree, that it should be our goal to make the PS2 binary compatible to mipsel and use Debian/mipsel in the long run. Nevertheless, I as an interim project, I added the "mipsEEel" architecture to dpkg and started compiling stuff. About half of base is done now. As I will be heading to Japan on Monday and stay there for a month (not carrying the PS2 along), I'll not be able to work on it. I've put all source and .debs I have made so far at http://www.informatik.uni-muenchen.de/~_bolzer/ps2linux/debian/ If anybody wants to take a look or extend the list, you're welcome. # Looking forward to see most of you in Japan -- Oliver M.
