I have been running ps-watcher for several months, on several servers.

While I find the tool useful (when it is running correctly), I am frustrated when the tool 'disconnects' it's logging and quits functioning properly. This is not to say that the process dies, but rather it just quits working properly.

Here is an expample from the logfile (I have changed from using syslog to using an independant logfile to see if this would improve the behavior).

12/07/06 09:35:07 ps-watcher[3356]: You have 227 processes running
12/07/06 09:37:07 ps-watcher[3356]: You have 218 processes running
12/07/06 09:39:07 ps-watcher[3356]: You have 215 processes running
12/07/06 09:41:07 ps-watcher[3356]: You have 220 processes running
12/07/06 09:43:08 ps-watcher[3356]: You have 214 processes running
12/07/06 21:33:47 ps-watcher[3356]: Going down on TERM (15) signal. Have a nice day!
12/07/06 21:33:48 ps-watcher[16274]: Starting: $Id: ps-watcher.in.in,v 1.57 2006/03/10 19:07:05 rockyb Exp $
12/07/06 21:33:48 ps-watcher[16274]: You have 210 processes running
12/07/06 21:35:48 ps-watcher[16274]: You have 210 processes running
12/07/06 21:37:48 ps-watcher[16274]: You have 210 processes running

What I am attempting to display is that the tool quits logging, it is still alive (I sent it a HUP signal), but it does not log any information. Finally, I restart the process to get it running properly again.

Memory Leak?
Buggy Code?
I do not know. Any suggestions?
