I've been tinkering with the JMX interfaces to proxool and everything seems tickety-boo except one thing: I don't seem to be able to update the driverUrl property. Specifically, what I've been doing is changing jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/db_1 to jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/db_2 It looks to me like ConnectionPoolDefinition.doChange only updates the url and driver properties if the pool's identified by a URL rather than an alias, but the JMX interface uses the alias, which means that you can't update the driverUrl property via JMX. Is there a design reason for that behaviour, or is it an oversight? R. |

in case of scenario of where 10 connections need to be maintained in the pool, what should be the simultaneous-build-throttle and house-keeping-sleep-time in other words what these parameters are for? Does housekeeping threads make connection to db in that case shouldn't I be keeping that high instead of 30s default? Regarding AdminServlet provided for checking out the bottleneck of the connection, I am getting weird connections created at 30 40 secs or so in lots of 2, 3 or 4 connections created at same time, my code is not creating any such connections so the AdminServlet has complicated the matter instead of solving. Can you guys please help me in letting me know how to debug and check which connections are not getting released through AdminServlet Thanks --Abhishek |

how can i configure simultaneous-build-throttle: maximum-connection-lifetime: maximum-active-time: in proxool through proxool.xml or the or web.xml? i mean should it go in init-param of Servletconfigurator or the proxool.xml configuration? |

hi, Will using <init-param> <param-name>autoShutdown</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </init-param> in Servletconfigurator (or letting it default true) remove all the proxool pools may be used by other web applications also in same web server. Can't help, documentation was ambiguous at that point. And the second more important one, how can I make sure that Servletconfigurator is the last one to get destroyed and so the pools remain active in my web app. My scenarios is that I have 4-5 servlets all getting connection from the same pool, I want to make it absolute that pool remains there through ServletConfigurator even if the service of other servlets is not called for a considerable amount of time --Abhishek Manocha |

I use Proxool and have done since about 2002. I was one of the first to use it. In fact I am mentioned in the credits on the Proxool site. I found a memory leak, no mean feat in Java... I have just upgradedmy sites to Tomcat 6, Java 6 and the latest version of Proxool 0.9.1. Logging used to work but it no longer does. I have spent the last two days (+) trying to get it working to no avail. I use Log4J and there must be some way to get it working with commons-logging. The documentation on the Proxool site is at best ambiguous and at worst just incomplete or wrong. I have contacted Bill Horsman but he's busy and has lost touch with Java, so the help I got there was non-existant. It appears that there is no longer any sort of support. Great. Is there any one out there that has got the logging working on Proxool 0.9.1. <rant> I'm pretty annoyed about this. When you create software and encourage people to use it you have a RESPONSIBILITY to them. It's very unprofessional to leave them up sh1t creek when it suites you. God knows how many people are affected by this. </rant> |

Hi Rics, Short answer: because that is how it was designed in 2001. Slightly longer answer: a couple of other people have talked about this in the last month or so and at least one person has said that they are willing to work on a solution. It's certainly possible for Proxool to be modified to queue requests and it sounds like there is a demand for it. I'm more than willing to coordinate any solution but don't have time to do the coding. Sorry. Hi, I'm using proxool java connection pool (version 0.9.1) . Everything works fine till I reach the maximum connection count. If the maximum connection count is reached proxool immediately throws an SQLExcepion: java.sql.SQLException: Couldn't get connection because we are at maximum connection count (n/n) and there are none available Of course instead of n the maximum connection count is shown. Why is proxool throwing an SQLException immediately instead of waiting for an available connection? Not forever of course, but a configurable timeout would be great. I don't know if it important, but I'm using proxool in a Tomcat J2EE application. Parameters of proxool are defined in context.xml and I'm using Proxool DataSource Support. Thanks in advance,Rics --------------------------Hirdetés----------------------------- Mostantól könnyebb átköltözni az Indamailbe! Hi Joe, No need to post the message to all the Proxool lists! I'm replying to proxool-user because I think it's most appropriate. This error occurs when you try to use a connection that Proxool has closed itself. This often (always?) happens if a connection has remained active for more than the maximum-active-time, which defaults to 5 minutes. There are two common reasons for that: 1) a genuine but lengthy query that takes longer than 5 minutes, or 2) a connection reference being kept in reference and not closed. As the error says, take a look back in the logs a bit further and see if you can see where the connection is closed. Proxool should explain why it is being closed. It's not unusual for it to work on the second attempt - you'll be picking up a fresh connection. Regards, -- Bill Horsman http://www.logicalcobwebs.com/bill_horsman |

Hi, We are currently using Proxool 0.9.0RC3 in our application (running on Tomcat 5.5 with JDK 1.6). When redeploying while debugging we get the following errors (that can sometimes result in the need to restart Tomcat): Exception in thread "HouseKeeper" java.lang.NullPointerException at org.logicalcobwebs.proxool.HouseKeeperController.getHouseKeeperToRun(HouseKe eperController.java:53) at org.logicalcobwebs.proxool.HouseKeeperThread.run(HouseKeeperThread.java:33) Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas? Thanks, John. |
