This has been a big issue on the Ant dev list for months, only they are discussing dropping support for JDK 1.1 ;)
The general sentiment there seems to be that it's ok to drop the support for the old JDK as long as the users of old JDKs have access to a stable release version (in this case Ant 1.5) that is forked out and maintained for bugs.
I think we should adopt the same attitude. However I don't feel that Proxool 0.5 is sufficiently mature to be that "stable release version". The core functionality is certantly mature and stable, but I feel we need to iron out a few wrinkles concerning configuration/re-configuration and documentation before we cut off the 1.2 users. Could we keep the 1.2 support up to and including the Proxool 1.0 release, and then fork off a maintenace branch for 1.2?
