My company recently adopted SimpleTracker for use
internally, and while for the most part the application is not
difficult to work with, it is EXTREMELY annoying that start
time / end time must be entered manually.
in our case, we don't really care *when* the work was done,
just how much time was spent on which projects. We need
to be able to simply enter the *duration* spent on each item.
Since we have to come up with bogus start/end times to
create duration blocks, we spend collectively way too much
time in simpletracker (someone actually hacked the page
on our server and replaced the graphic
with "ComplexTracker".)
People cuss this software constantly. We don't work in fast
food, we're developers. It's been many years for most of us
since we had to 'punch a timeclock'. This software makes
us feel like we've devolved. Unfortunately it was the first
thing management found that met their requirements, so
they could care less.
So this is a plea from the poor people saddled with using it.
Let us enter duration directly. Puhleeeeze. Since the data is
in CSV format it would be an easy enough matter to bypass
the app and just build the CSV in excel, if the timestamps
weren't in what looks like unix time. So even the beauty of
having a text format for data storage is defeated by this
bogoid featurebug.
Thanks in advance for helping droves of people caught in
this net of lameness.
