A human being is born with two kidneys. Some may even being born without one. When these two kidneys are working, they filter the innumerous impurities from the blood 24 hours a day. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) happens when kidneys are damaged and cannot filter the blood properly, and then wastes from the blood remain in the body and may cause other health problems. The CDC – Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that more than 10% of the adults living in United States has some degree of Kidney Disease. “Approximately 1 of 3 adults with diabetes and 1 of 5 adults with high blood pressure has CKD”. Can doctors 3d print a kidney?

Hello,

I am a physician, and read today an article: "Can doctors 3d print a kidney? (http://www.psfk.com/2012/06/3d...". This is what I think: Yes, but not exactly doctors, but most bio engineers. I graduated at Federal University of Sergipe (Brazil) and, just after graduated went to Rio de Janeiro at Bio-medical Engineering Program (PEB), so, guess I´ve learned some stuff or more.

See, what is actually wrong is to use a plain CT SCAN in order to make a kidney. This is not going to work at all. The inherit problem is that a CT Scan has a NOT ENOUGH resolution to do the trick.... read more

Need for public support

Hello,

I have received, just now, two emails, witch I decided to publish this.

I really need, indeed (with much emphasis), HELP, especially on spreading this independent campaign, witch address a very noble public health problem.

As a physician myself, and a husband who´s wife is suffering from the evils of this terrible and deadly disease, I understand the need for science to prioritize living organs 3d printing.

Here is where it starts

Why we don´t have any human organ made?

Technology, as already available, is astonishing. An old 486 processor has components that are almost 1 micrometer size. A skin cell is 30 times larger. And YET we can build better processors and NONE WHATSOEVER cell tissue? Why?

We do not do just because we think it is impossible. "can´t build a cell tissue". It is impossible, most people can say. But is it really impossible?... read more
