Hi! I must say you chose an odd usergroup list to ask this question. But nevertheless I'm gonna try to answer some of your questions. 1. to upgrade an application in RedHat installation you use RPM package management, i.e. rpm -i <package>, you have to download a .rpm file for t= he package you want to upgrade 2. if you upgrade kernel it doesn't upgrade all the apps as well. also wh= en you try to upgrade a package that has dependencied the rpm management tel= ls you which packages the new package need etc. 3. regarding the next message you sent, try setting the executable rights for that file and run it in a shell i.e. ./your.selfx I suggest you take a look at redhat.com for some additional documentation= s about rpm management etc. Hope this helps a little bit.
