This is an interaction between a PMW bug and a Windows bug. I have repeatedly unchecked the 'Allow Shortcuts' setting in the Misc tab of PMW's preferences dialog, but it gets randomly re-enabled sometimes after a system reboot. Windows itself randomly sets the Windows key to be active when I unlock my system; in other words, sometimes after I log back in, the system behaves as if I'm pressing the Windows key even when I am not. Since the PMW shortcut for Kill is Win+Ctrl+K, if I log back in and the Windows key gets stuck, and I then use Firefox and the Ctrl-K shortcut to move to the search box, PMW kills Firefox.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install PMW
2. Set PMW to start with Windows
3. Open PMW preferences, go to Misc tab, uncheck 'Allow Shortcuts'
4. Reboot, use computer normally; repeat as necessary; eventually PMW will start up with shortcuts re-enabled
5. Lock system to go do something else; unlock system; repeat as necessary; eventually Windows key will be randomly locked on
5a. It's worth noting that the Windows key locking may not be reproducible for you. I've seen this bug on many Windows systems, but it's possible that Microsoft finally fixed it in Vista or Windows 7 (I'm running XP; no, I can't upgrade, this is a company machine).
6. Open Firefox, hit Ctrl-K to move to search box
7. Watch in horror as PMW instantly kills your browsing session
I did notice that my PMW.log file has no mention of my disabling of the 'Allow Shortcuts' option. I don't know if that has anything to do with the bug or not.
