PR:000017299 currently has the name 'VIP peptides', taken I assume from the similarly named UniProt entry, P01282. VIP is short for 'vasoactive intestinal peptide' (HGNC:12693) or 'vasoactive intestinal polypeptide' (MGI:98933). The current PRO entry, besides having an inappropriately plural name (ontology names are supposed to be singular), does not include 'vasoactive intestinal peptide' or 'vasoactive intestinal polypeptide' as synonyms.
At a minimum these full length names should be made exact synonyms, but I would prefer the name itself be changed to 'vasoactive intestinal peptide' with 'VIP peptides' as a synonym, as well as 'VIP' and 'vasoactive intestinal polypeptide'.
Depending on your energy, the child terms of PR:000017299 should receive similar changes.
Thanks,
Alex
Hi Alex,
This term was indeed based on automatic import of the UniProtKB entry. I have revised the name somewhat as you suggested while still capturing the true intent of the plurality:
[Term]
id: PR:000017299
name: vasoactive intestinal polypeptides precursor
def: "A protein that is a translation product of the human VIP gene or a 1:1 ortholog thereof." [PRO:DNx]
comment: Category=gene.
synonym: "VIP" EXACT PRO-short-label [PRO:DNx]
synonym: "VIP peptides" EXACT [PRO:DNx]
synonym: "vasoactive intestinal polypeptides" EXACT [PRO:DNx]

is_a: PR:000000001 ! protein
Child terms have been similarly revised.
