We are proud to announce that we have finished the integration of the LinuxPrinterSetup into the homebanking software MoneyPenny (see the screenshots).
With MoneyPenny, we have shown that automation of hardware detection facilitates the daily work with Linux.
We don't want to stop here but take another important step: Build packages for use with the KDE and GNOME desktop.
Currently we are not directly working on the LinuxPrinterSetup. This will not change until we finished the integration of the LinuxPrinterSetup into the homebanking software "Money-Penny" (http://www3.fh-swf.de/fbin/roth/money-penny_en.htm).
The "Linux Printer Setup" project is proud to announce the initial release of the "CUPS Driver 2 XML" sources.
You can use this GUI-tool to collect useful PPD driver information loacted on your filesystem. Those information can be saved to a XML file.
This tool is a great alternative to the "make_driver_db_cups" command line utility that is used by the KDE print project to build the manufacturer and model lists in their printer setup dialog.
With "CUPS Driver 2 XML" you can to more at last and in a much more elegant way! Some examples:
1) Get all printer models of a special manufacturer using XPath-Expressions like this one "//Manufacturer[@name="HP"]/Model/@name"
2) Get the information you need to automatically setup your printers (not possible with the results "make_driver_db_cups" offers)... read more
