map_fullpage_thumb.pngWe are pleased to announce the release <http://sourceforge.net/projects/presbyterysite/> of PresbyterySite 0.1.0! PresbyterySite's code has demonstrated itself to be mature enough to be used by a continuing user base. This release deserves a new minor version number because it includes the following important new features: *1. User data is now stored in Joomla user tables and in Community Builder*, which is now required (we may make it optional in the future). This will enable further integration between PresbyterySite and Community Builder user profiles in the future. When you install PresbyterySite 0.1.0, the installer will migrate your user data from PresbyterySite's user tables into the Joomla / Community Builder tables (please *backup* your database first!!), and these new user accounts will be associated properly with the congregations and committees in PresbyterySite. No more duplicate user information! Now it will all be stored in one place. This is the good news. The bad news is that these new user accounts will be duplicates of the already-existing users in your Joomla / Community Builder tables, but don't contain the Joomla / Community Builder data contained in the older duplicate user profiles. More specifically, these new user accounts consist of the following PresbyterySite data, converted into the following Joomla / Community Builder data: *PresbyterySite data* *Joomla / Community Builder data* _Full name_ (e.g., "John P. Doe, Jr. (Jack)" _Full name_ (e.g., "John P. Doe, Jr. (Jack)") _username_ (e.g., "johnpdoejrjack") - created from full name, lowercased & all non alphanumeric characters stripped out _email_ (e.g., jo...@do... <mailto:jo...@do...>) This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it _email_ (e.g., jo...@do... <mailto:jo...@do...>). If PresbyterySite did not have an email address for this user, a fake address in the form of nu...@nu... <mailto:nu...@nu...> is created, where xx is a number. This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it _password_ - equals username (e.g., "johnpdoejrjack") There is no easy way to migrate the old profile data into the new profiles, because there is no way to automate matching the users in PresbyterySite's tables with the users in Joomla's tables. So, you must either copy the data over yourself, or inform your users of their new username and password* and ask them to copy it over themselves. *If you can offer a script to do this task, please let us know <http://alwaysreformed.com/home/index.php?option=com_contact&task=view&contact_id=1&Itemid=> as we are in need of it right now. *2. Small improvements to the page for assigning committee members.* *3. 0,0 Lat/Lon bug fixed.* The bug that plotted congregations that Google couldn't geocode somewhere off the coast of Africa (at 0,0 latitude, longitude) should now be fixed (finally)! -- Tim Black /Always Reformed Web Development <http://www.alwaysreformed.com>/ 1147 Leigh Ave. # 2 San Jose, CA 95126 (408) 995-6086 ti...@al... <mailto:ti...@al...> timblack1 on all chat networks |

I am pleased to announce the release of PresbyterySite 0.0.7! This is mostly a bugfix release, but also includes some new functionality. The following bugs were fixed: Bugfix: Meeting and mailing addresses reversed Bugfix: Map crashed when adding new congregation Bugfix: Internationalization works now! The following enhancements were added: Enhancement: Increased maximum length of congregation info fields Enhancement: Added Italian translation PresbyterySite is a suite of Joomla! components that simplify producing an excellent Presbytery website, and streamline the tasks of the clerk. Currently it provides a Google map of congregations, and a directory of congregations & committees. Tim Black -- Tim Black /Always Reformed Web Development <http://www.alwaysreformed.com>/ |

Tim, I have looked in the jos_ps_congregations table and do not see any geocodes. I concede that my computer guru at the church usually handles this end of the work, I took this site on as a challenge and am learning as I go. I am not making any changes at present as I do not want to mess things up. We are using joomla 1.0.12, as being a newbie I did not want to play with a beta yet. Our site is http://tidewaterchurchplanting.net I'll try to look at it more tomorrow, but the JavaScript error it throws in FireFox (which you can view in the FireFox extension called FireBug) indicates that for some reason the latitude and longitude for each congregation is either not in the database (meaning something is wrong with the script that "geocodes" each congregation's location and stores it in the database), or the code isn't getting that data out of the database correctly. If you have access to phpMyAdmin on your server, look in the jos_ps_cong table in the database to see if there is any latitude and longitude data for your congregations. I've got several guesses but would be able to diagnose the problem better if you can post a link to your map page so I can take a look at it. This happens to me when I run PresbyterySite on my local computer (not on the web server), because the Google Map API is specific to your website's IP address, and the IP address of my local computer is not the same as the IP address of my website. When that happens, the Google map pops up a dialog box saying that "The Google Maps API key used on this web site was registered for a different web site. You can generate a new key for this web site at http://www.google.com/apis/maps/." Do you get that popup message? If so, you should generate a key for your site that only has your domain name, and does not include any subdirectories of your site, like http://www.alwaysreformed.com rather than http://www.alwaysreformed.com/home. (You can also get the map to display on your local computer by applying for a key like http://localhost/.) You can also try this: http://mapki.com/wiki/Read_This_First#My_API_key_doesn.27t_work If you don't get that popup, your problem may be that the size of the HTML <div> element within which the map is found is set to a relative height (a percentage), or to a height not tall enough for the map, which can cause the map not to display. This problem is described here: http://www.econym.demon.co.uk/googlemaps/basic19.htm . You can change the size of that <div> element, which is named "map," in the CSS stylesheet found at components/com_ps_map/ps_map.css. Edit it over FTP if possible to avoid the complexity of editing the CSS file in the zipped installer files and then reinstalling the component. You could also check to see whether the map works in other browsers like FireFox. You should also check to see if your browser reports any JavaScript errors. JavaScript has to be enabled in your browser for the maps page to work. In my local version of PresbyterySite I'm not getting this error. I didn't do anything to fix the error, so I'm not sure what is causing it on your end. Let me know if it still appears in version 0.0.6., which I just released. Steve, I'll fix this one quickly. Thank you for your careful description. I've found several bugs like this when I delete all records in one database table. I wrote the code with the database tables already full of information, so these foreach() bugs crop up when data the code was written to expect isn't present. The fix is simple: wrap the foreach() call in the code with an if () clause like this: $numRows = count($rowArray); if ($numRows > 0){ foreach ($rowArray as $row){ // do something } } I'll let you know when it's fixed. I am pleased to announce the release of PresbyterySite-0.0.5! The key improvement in version 0.0.5 is that PresbyterySite can now be translated into other languages, and the administrator can set the display language for the frontend. If you would like to help us translate PresbyterySite, please contact me or simply make a copy of the "messages.po" file, translate it with poEdit, and send us a copy! "messages.po" is in the following directory: com_ps_core/locale/eng/LC_MESSAGES You can download poEdit from: http://www.poedit.org/ Thank you for your interest in PresbyterySite! Tim Black |

Hi all, I'm pleased to announce the release of PresbyterySite 0.0.4. This release contains new functionality that has been much desired and is even essential to managing your data. Now you can edit almost every bit of presbytery data in the database. Now there are add/update/delete forms for the following tables: jos_ps_area jos_ps_committeeroles jos_ps_committees jos_ps_committees_users (join table) jos_ps_office jos_ps_presbyteryroles jos_ps_role jos_ps_user jos_ps_users_presbyteryroles (join table) jos_ps_users_congregations_offices_roles (join table) This release also fixes a few bugs, including the one that would crash the map when you added a new congregation. I believe this should provide the answers to the main questions that users have asked recently. I'm hoping to work on internationalizing the code next, so that PresbyterySite can be translated into other languages. Thank you for your interest in PresbyterySite! Tim Black |

The functions you need to edit are the ones like the two below. Currently these functions are found in every ps_[component].php : [Component]Model class. I've moved them all into a new ps_core component for future versions so there's just one function to edit. We haven't made forms to edit everything yet. Are you able to see any of the existing editing functionality listed below? The things you should be able to edit through the frontend when logged in as an Editor or Admin are: Congregations - add & delete congregation - edit congregation's details Map - move congregation's thumbtack Committees - select members, classes, officers Currently anything that isn't accessible when you are logged in as an Editor (or a user with higher privileges than an Editor) has to be edited "manually" in the database using phpMyAdmin. I'm sorry for that inconvenience. As I have time I'm hoping to make add/update/delete forms for the following tables: jos_ps_area jos_ps_committeeroles jos_ps_committees jos_ps_committees_users (join table) jos_ps_office jos_ps_presbyteryroles jos_ps_role jos_ps_user jos_ps_users_presbyteryroles (join table) And I need to split some tables into the following (presently nonexistent) join tables, then create similar forms for them: jos_ps_congregations_areas jos_ps_users_congregations_offices_roles Let me know which items are the highest priority to you and I'll try to get to them next. OK. The fatal error has been corrected and I was able to install all of the components. However, when I log into the frontend (which I have as Admin and a secondary account as Editor) I am not given any options to Edit, Add, Delete, etc. Any thoughts? Overall, it looks like a GREAT component. I was trying to tweak a "yellow pages" directory to work prior to this, and Presbyterysite looks so much better. |

Steve, Line 44: global $database; needs to be moved up to line 27 in the runQueries() function. My mistake. This is fixed in the Subversion repository, and I will make a bugfix release immediately since this one's a showstopper. : ) Since you're the first person to post on this list, thank you for your interest in PresbyterySite!
