Powerweapons Pro v12 is my final version of Powerweapons v8. I aquired ownership of the MOD in 2006. There were releases of Pwrweapons v9, v10, but only a few noticed, and I'm not sure anyone cared. I went through Pwrweapons v11 on my own, and just recently made the few small breakthroughs I was working for to call the game Pwrweapons Pro v12.
The main attribute that makes this game Pro, is it's weapon hand grapple.
In Pwrweapons v4-v11, the game was off-hand. You could use the bind command, like this /bind mouse2 +button5,
and use mouse2 to grapple, and still use mouse1 to fire.
This lead to grapple spamming, which made it far to easy to be all over the map. In combination with the weapons like the exploding shotgun, this was basically, way too much fun.
Making the grapple a weapon, makes it harder to use, and so it is no longer a noob game. Now it takes more skill and viola, we have Powerweapons Pro.
In contrast to other games, Pwrweapons, didn't stay on the map as long as some of the other game MOD's. Beryllium MOD, by AdamW, had a much slower off-hand grapple, and was a lot of fun too. Corkscrew is probably the most famous, with it's rubbery, tarzan, grapple... very fancy and also a lot of fun. Excessive Plus, based on the original work by Mr. Pants, can have the grapple, but doesn't seem to have it normally.
If your familiar with these MOD's, then you know that all of them are very playable. By anyone. Pwrweapons, had a small cult following, and we were fanatic about it. It also made some serious enemies. The overwhelming power involved in this game, made it easy to wipe everyone in a pinch. Certain 'campers' were litterally, undefeatable.
Even the creator and owner back then came to hate his own creation... much like Dr. Frankenstein came to hate his monster. For good reasons.
Pwrweapons had what was called CVARS. Beryllium had them too, but nobody had them as extensively as Pwrweapons.
CVARS were variables, that gave any server administrator, complete control over the grapple, how fast it was, all the weapons, and how much power, or how fast they would shot.
Of course, people abused this power, and we loved it. Four clubs were created. TGC (Top Gun Club,) TGCR (Top Gun Club Revised,) the {ACES}, and [PWFC] (Powerweapons Fight Club.)
The reason it fell behind all the other MOD's, was because the owner hated it, and took down his webpage, and abandoned it.
He gave it to me. I never had the resources to put up a webpage, or run a server. Even now, I'm just releasing the game as more of a historical type situation. We had a lot of fun, I wanted anyone who runs across this to know that it was a great game. It just may have been too over the top to be popular. Excessive or InstaGib, seemed to be the limit of what your average player wanted, outside of Plain Vanilla Q3.
So I'm not trying to top Excessive, or Excessive Plus. Just saying, there was a faster, more powerful MOD.
