This thread is aimed at providing a list of barcode scanners that work in USB HID POS mode. This type of interface is the one supported by Windows 8/10 and the one that works with PosXP. Although most recent scanners support this type of interface, often it is named in different ways in the manufacturers documentation or not stated at all. With this list you can buy a model with confidence without wasting your money and time.
A good and economic model I used for testing is the Honeywell Hyperion 1300G.
Other models known to work are:
- Honeywell Voyager 1200G
- Honeywell Xenon 1900
Since release 1.10.23 partial support for any barcode scanner in Keyboard Wedge mode (basically every barcode scanner on the market) has been added. Please refer to your barcode scanner's manual to enable this mode of operation.
There's only one gotcha: reading a barcode with the barcode scanner will only insert the code numbers, you'll still have to press the BARCODE button on the screen to insert the product in the sale.
To avoid inserting again the last added item or opening the menu bar, you must tap on the BARCODE button before scanning an item and that will complete the product insertion.
In the next release, when handling of keyboard input will be completed, you'll at least be able to press a key on the keyboard instead of the BARCODE button.
