Thanks - I'll try and review it tomorrow.... I'm a bit surprised about you not needing the fake_from field - but then that allows for the email from to be totally different from the SMTP from field - and in our case it isn't - it's a case of : SMTP FROM = "us...@do..." Email FROM = "Mr User <us...@do...>" And clearly the library is extracting the us...@do... from it as appropriate. Is there any benefit to us keeping the data separate - i.e. using from and fake_from? Does it give us more "protection" against someone trying to be clever and entering a 'real_name' as e.g. <ra...@ex...> ? I used this for testing : #!/usr/bin/perl -w use Mail::Sender; %mail = ( to => 'da...@pa...', from => 'Bob Jangles <da...@pa...>', msg => "whatever", subject => 'meh meh', ); %smtp = ( 'smtp' => 'localhost', 'from' => 'me...@me...', on_errors => 'die', ); $body = 'whatever'; eval { my $sender = new Mail::Sender { %smtp } ; $sender->Open({%mail}); $sender->SendLineEnc($body); $sender->Close() or die($sender->{'error_msg'}); }; if($@) { die("pants : $@\n"); } thanks, David. Very cool, thanks so much for doing this Jan! It is surprising how some things can seem like they would be so simple and turn out not to be, while others might look like they'd be really complex, but turn out to be simple... Let me know if/when you have something I can test... although, actually, I don't think I have anyone with vacation enabled right now... I can set up a test user and play with it though - probably best anyway... ;) On 2012-05-24 1:45 PM, Jan Kruis <pf...@cr...> wrote: > I'm working at the time on a patch which make it possible to > "friendly from address to vacation messages" to fit into through > vacation.php and tpl. > > It gets the name and email from the table emailbox if the record > (realname or friendyname) is blank. I'm working at the time on a patch which make it possible to "friendly from address to vacation messages" to fit into through vacation.php and tpl. It gets the name and email from the table emailbox if the record (realname or friendyname) is blank. This variable is editable and is stored in the vacation table so the user or admin can put in everthink hi or she likes. I think i needs one or two days to get it all ready. the temporary patch also contains code for usercontrol (which allows or diables users to set variable like REALNAME, Type of relpy) Please have a quick look to see i shall go on or stop. see patch 3529523 regrades Jan Op 24 mei 2012, om 13:15 heeft David Goodwin het volgende geschreven: > Try svn updating vacation.pl > > I've added in a $friendly_from and hopefully better error handling around sending the reply. > > > David. > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Live Security Virtual Conference > Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and > threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. >> > > Well, again, since ianap, I'm not comfortable trying to do this, I'm > quite sure I'd break something in a really bad way… The Mail::Sender takes care of escaping and other crap for you, it seems. All you need to do is : 1. Get the $name variable from the database somehow - e.g. my $query = "SELECT friendly_name FROM some_table WHERE email = ?"; my $stmt = $dbh->prepare($query); $stmt->execute($email); $retval = $stmt->rows; my $friendly_name = "unknown user"; if($retval = 1) { my $row = $stmt->fetchrow_array; my $friendly_name = $row[0]; } 2. Add in a 'fake_to' and/or 'fake_from' parameter in the %mail hash - %mail = ( to =>$to, from => $from, fake_from => "$friendly_name <$from>", msg => encode_base64($body), subject =>$subject, ); then do the normal Mail::Sender stuff : $Mail::Sender::NO_X_MAILER = 1; my $sender = new Mail::Sender({%smtp_connection}); $sender->Open({%mail}); $sender->SendLineEnc($body); $sender->Close() or $logger->error('Failed to send vacation response: ' . $sender->{'error_msg'}); $logger->debug("Vacation response sent to $to, from $from"); David. > > I guess maybe it is harder than I thought it would be, or someone would > have simply come up with aone liner change adding in the $name variable > to the mix... > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Live Security Virtual Conference > Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and > threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. Can I make a suggestion. When we add an extra field in the table 'vacation' like "email_name" and make adjusable in vacation.php / vacatin.tpl workflow: First time that an "out of office" for an email address is created mailname is created from $email and $name from table 'mailbox' display it in the template. With this in (vacation.php / vacatin.tpl) adaptable to the admin or user [1] customize it at your own discretion. eg <DO NOT REPLY> no...@do... or leave it unchanged It is therefore also useable if there would be a change in using a other module than vacation.pl [1] with "user control" you would be close to the user. $ add_realname also comes in this config.inc.php it's all just an idea but would love to hear your opinion regards Jan Kruis |

Add the quotes and <...> ;-) Strictly speaking, the quotes around the name are not always needed, but I don't know the details. (Maybe they are needed if the name contains < or >.) Additionally, you'll need to encode non-ASCII names (similar to how the subject is (hopefully - I didn't check the code) encoded). Please also make sure that the From still looks good when no realname is specified - don't add empty quotes or <...> in this case. You'll probably have to read a RFC to find out the 100% correct way. Or find a perl module that does the job for you ;-) Please also make this behaviour configureable ("our $add_realname = 1;") - sometimes, I "abuse" the name field and enter some internal notes that shouldn't be public... I'm happy to test it, but... I checked and there is no $name variable defined in the script... so, any idea/suggestion for how to properly set it? It looks like the best way would be to simply add a query that sets $name variable in the send_vacation_email subroutine - and it looks like the query that sets the $subject and $body variables is at line 418: my $query = qq{SELECT subject, body FROM vacation WHERE email=?}; So, I'm thinking a query before (or after, probably doesn't matter?) the one above that sets the $name variable - but I'm not sure of the proper way to do this - ie, do I use the 'my $query =' prefix, like: my $query = qq{SELECT name FROM mailbox WHERE email=?}; or just do qq{SELECT name FROM mailbox WHERE email=?}; Then I'd just change line 432 (the 'my $from =' line below) to: my $from = "$name $email"; Another thing is, the name should be in double quotes, and the email should be in <> brackets, so how to properly accomplish that? Should the above be: my $from = "$name $email"; or my $from = "$name" <$email>; Or, maybe add two additional lines adding the quotes to the name and the brackets to the email, like: my $name = "$name"; my $email = <$email>; Then just do my $from = $name $email; Or maybe, as in your example: my $from = "$name $email"; to separate the two variables with a space? Thanks for any more insights into how I might accomplish this... Also - David, it appears that you aren't very familiar with the vacation.pl script... is there someone else that you know of that I can ask about this that is more familiar with it? If the vacation script is using a mail library (Mail::Sendmail?) then I would half expect it to have a way of setting the user's real name in the from address. David |

Hi all, I'd really like some assistance figuring out how to do this... I just can't seem to get my head around how. What I'd like is for the $from used for Vacation messages to include the persons name, not just their email address... So, instead of: From: us...@ex... it would be: From: My Name <us...@ex...> It looks like all that is needed is to grab the users name in the query: my $query = qq{SELECT subject, body FROM vacation WHERE email=?}; ? and then change the $from line: my $from = $email; to something that would include the users name, like: my $from = $name $email; Of course, it should be smart enough not to break if the user doesn't have a name (all of my users do, but that is beside the point), and it would have to be wrapped to not break if non standard naming convention is used (ie, Last, First, or First Last III, or whatever)... So, any suggestions? Thanks, Charles |

Webmail is nothing else than running an IMAP server (typically dovecot nowadays) and any webmail frontend (Squirrelmail, roundcube, horde, ...) on your webserver that connects to the IMAP server. Can you please check (and, if needed, change) the Max Quota (french 'Limite maximum') setting of the _domain_? This defines the maximum value you can use as quota for each mailbox.
