I have a problem : A part of my db is standart md5 and the other part is md5crypt. No problem for dovecot and postfix but now, I want allow my users to use the postfixadmin user interface. Any idea to update all md5 hashs of my db to md5crypt hashs ?
See these threads :
The latter of those refers to http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/ConvertPasswordSchemes where it describes a scheme for adding a new field to the database, and creating scripts called when a user logs in to set the new password. Over time, every user that has logged in will have set the new password field. You can then retire users that aren't using their mailbox, and convert the system to use the new passwords.
The clever bit in the scheme given is that it relies on Dovecot having the plaintext password from the user login - which means you can use it to generate the new hashed password. It's not possible to convert already hashed passwords.
Where "possible" really means "practical without huge investment of resources"
