When connecting on port 587 (submission), is it appropriate to require the AUTH command before accepting a MAIL FROM command? If so, how do you configure postfix to behave as such?

I was testing a new installation of iRedMail/postfix and received this recommendation by a testing service (Failed this check: "Your system requires authentication (AUTH) on port 587 before the MAIL FROM command is issued.").

Plain text is shut off; using "smtpd_tls_security_level=encrypt" for smtp, smpts and submission services in

    (me = relative iRedMail/postfix/smtp n00b)

This is a general Postfix issue, not Postfix Admin. Postfix Admin is a separate tool for managing virtual domains/mailboxes. You'd be better popping over to and ask on one of their mailing lists.

But, in my I have this :
    submission inet n - - - - smtpd
    -o syslog_name=postfix/submission
    -o smtpd_tls_security_level=encrypt
    -o smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes
    -o smtpd_client_restrictions=permit_sasl_authenticated,reject
