porthole-0.6.0_rc5 has been released and will hopefully prove to be -0.6.0 final.
I now have regular full time internet access again, so am able to continue development again. I did miss it.
Anyone want to help update the webpage? I suck at html :(
I have been without internet for some time now nad have been unable to do any development work on it. I do hope to get internet again soon and continue working on it. I will be able to check in from time to time sporadically.
Porthole needs volunteers to update the existing translation files for porthole-0.6.0 final. If you are capable and willing to help please let me know.
I have started a forum thread on gentoo's forums:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-691659.html
to help track volunteer efforts.
If you wish to create a new language translation, you are welcome to do so. I am sure there are users out there that will enjoy/need it.... read more
This will be the final release candidate before -0.6.0 final. This release includes 2 plug-in modules, Etc-proposals and Profuse. You will need to uninstall the porthole-etc-proposals plug-in module as this version includes it.
This version also includes a new Italian translation. I am also looking for volunteers to update the existing translation files.
Thank you
Brian
This is the second and should be final pre-release of this new enhanced & update version of porthole. There were very few reported bugs/problems with the first pre-release. So I feel confident that there will be very few changes from this release to the final -0.6.0 release.
Please test and report any problems.
Brian
Porthole has now converted to svn. I believe everything is now up to date with the latest changes I had to make for everything to work properly when installed as well as running from a checkout.
There is also a few bugfixes which I will put in the changelog
After a much awaited time, porthole-0.6.0_rc1 is now available as well as a new plug-in module porthole-etc-proposals.
If there are no problems I will submit the new version and new plug-in to gentoo bugs along with another plug-in module for Profuse.
The cvs version of porthole will remain out of date for a short while. I had to make a number of re-organizing changes to be able to create a working release. I am also going to migrate porthole to svn. Since my main focus is right now is the final release of -0.6.0 and a couple of new plug-ins. The current cvs migration to svn and updates to all the latest changes will have to wait a short while. In the meantime download the latest ebuilds or source code tarballs until they are in the portage tree.... read more
Sorry people, life has gotten in the way of coding. Good news is that I am back to getting some things finished. I hope to get a new release out very soon.
(I know I said that 9 months ago :)
I've added a new branch to prthole that breaks up portholes code into smaller modules. There are many benefits to this. Porthole is now easier to work on, memory usage has been reduced, etc..
For those of you wanting to work on porthole, please use this new branch for patching.
Thank you... dol-sen
We are proud to announce this release of porthole. With all the great additions and bug fixes, this version is the most stable yet.
This release of porthole also includes several translations:
French, German, Polish, Russian, Vietnamese
Thanks to 2 new developers, we have been able to add numerous features & improvements. Most of the reported bugs have been fixed or are no longer valid.
Please test out the pre-release tarballs so this next release will be super stable.

This marks the first official "Stable" release of porthole. I would also like to thank everyone for helping make porthole the great app it has become.

This release changes the location of portholes program files to python's site-packages directory for python to better handle upgrades. A few more bugfixes.
After a long time in development, we have finaly been able to release -0.4.0. There are numerous feature enhancements and improvements. The segfaults have been dramatically reduced, to a few pygtk/gtk ones that are rare on my system.
The improvements are too many to list here. Read the NEWS file in the release for a more detailed list.
Better late than never, eh?

Congratulations to Brian Dolbec, aka dol-sen. Due to his contributions to Porthole and willingness to help, we have given him developer status. Let's hope he enjoys working on Porthole as much as we do :)
There is a new mailing list for anyone wishing to help out with Porthole called "porthole-devel". It can be joined under the mailing lists link on the summary page. This list is primarily for developer communication, but anyone is welcome to provide ideas or constructive criticism if they so wish.
