I've posted a release candidate of the PortableApps.com Suite based on the current PortableApps.com Platform 1.1 Release Candidate 2 release. I'm just posting the "Light" version as the Standard one works exactly the same way and it'll be easier for testers. And it's called RC2 just to keep in sync with the platform release (there was no RC1). Before we start, please make any platform (menu/backup/icons/folders) comments in the PortableApps.com Platform 1.1 Release Candidate 2 topic and not this one. That way we can keep this exclusively for dealing with the Suite installer and any issues around it. This should be mostly as expected. The installer is complicated, though -- nearly 500 lines -- as it incorporates the installers for all the included apps to handle upgrades from the original Suite or from more recent app installs. It also drops Gaim and installs Pidgin and moves Gaim's settings into Pidgin (if it doesn't already exist). One last-minute change, too... PNotes was removed. It turns out that somewhere in PNotes' 3.x releases, it lost compatibility with Windows 95, 98 and Me. The current Suite release works on Windows 98 and up out of the box (with the exception of OpenOffice.org which requires a patch). I'd kinda like to keep it that way for this release. We'll be dropping that requirement soon (Firefox 3 goes final in a few weeks and is Windows 2000 and up). If anybody thinks we should just include it anyway... please let me know. Also, as expected, this includes the Platform 1.1 RC2 release as well as the current releases of AbiWord, ClamWin, CoolPlayer+, Firefox, KeePass, Mines-Perfect, Pidgin, Sudoku, Sumatra, Sunbird and Thunderbird. http://portableapps.com/node/13519 I'm debating releasing today, but am open to opinions. It feels like it might be a little rushed, but if we get some good testing in, we may be ok. Thanks, John |

New in 1.1 Release Candidate 2 * Rename Drive - You can now rename your drive just by clicking the name in the lower left of the menu. This will only work if you have an existing autorun.inf in the root, so you don't have to worry about accidentally renaming a drive. Changes take effect in the menu immediately but you may need to unplug and replug your drive for Windows to see it. * Autorun.inf updated - Existing autorun.inf is updated instead of replaced, keeping custom additional icons and actions, drive name, etc * App folders are no longer locked by the menu * Eject added to tray right-click * Removed Get more apps from installer since it launches default browser * Updated German and Dutch translations http://portableapps.com/node/13387 |

Full thread is here: http://portableapps.com/node/12241 Application: PortableApps.com App Compactor Category: Utilities Description: PortableApps.com App Compactor allows you to easily compress application to decrease size on disk and increase performance when running from a slow media (like flash drives). It packages UPX and 7-Zip within an easy to use wizard allowing you to easily compress an app's EXEs, DLLs and other binaries using UPX in either NRV2E, NRV2D, LZMA or BRUTE mode as well as recompressing ZIP and JAR files to their maximum level using 7-Zip. It also has an option to DECOMPRESS an app's binary files that were previously compressed with UPX. Just select the directory and all the DLL, EXE, ZIP, JAR, IRC, PYD and BIN files within that directory will be compressed. Depending on the files, the PortableApps.com App Compactor can decrease an app's size by 50% or more without affecting functionality. This same tool has been used on PortableApps.com's most popular apps including OpenOffice.org Portable, Pidgin Portable, 7-Zip Portable and more. Release Notes: 1.0 Pre-Release 4 (2008-04-10): Fixes and Enhancements: * ENHANCEMENT: Now accepts path on the command line, skips welcome and prefills path to compress making it easy to drag and drop a path onto the EXE from Explorer or set it up with a Sent To in Windows * BUGFIX: Paths with spaces now properly recompress Zips * BUGFIX: Now recompresses Zips and Jars in the base directory selected * OTHER: Name changed to PortableApps.com App Compactor to avoid possible trademark confusion |

BPBible Portable 0.2.0.1 Development Test 1 has been released. See http://portableapps.com/node/12598 for the announcement.* Application: *BPBible *Category: *Office (for lack of a better category!) *Description: *BPBible is a flexible Bible study tool built on the SWORD API in Python, meaning that it supports Bibles, Commentaries, Dictionaries, generic books, searching and more. A key feature of BPBible is its proximity based searching, providing a more natural search, which can go across verse boundaries. In addition, BPBible Portable updates any references to SWORD module paths on your USB disk/storage device. Download BPBible Portable 0.2.0.1 Development Test 1<http://bpbible.googlecode.com/files/BPBible_Portable_0.2.0.1_Development_Test_1_en-us.paf.exe>[5.7MB download / 10.9MB installed] (MD5: c7287715e547c89527effe32e2bdbf07) *Release Notes:* *Development Test 1 (2008-04-04): Initial release.** * - *Built from the SVN repository, revision 53. I had to add the configurable paths code myself by learning some Python! As such, the version number is completely artificial. My brothers (the two main developers) didn't care, but weren't ready for another release yet. This functionality will be included in the next release of BPBible, which may be either 0.2.1 (soon) or 0.3 (some time in the future).** * - *Compressed using LZMA compression with PortableApps.com App Compressor 1.0 Pre-Release 3** * - *Module paths are configurable in BPBible, and are updated by the launcher if the drive letter changes. This means that you can add your SWORD Project Portable modules by just going File -> Set SWORD Paths... and adding X:\PortableApps\SWORDProjectPortable\Data\settings.** * - *It's easiest to extract modules to {INSTDIR}\Data\resources for immediate detection by BPBiblePortable* P.S. John: Now that I'm a developer, can I please have my username changed to "Chris Morgan" (including login details)? Perl Portable 5.10.0 Development Test 1 has been posted: http://portableapps.com/node/12595 Release Notes: - *Initial Release. * - *Note that this first test release does not do dynamic portablization. Several scripts were manually modified to enable portability and many batch files had absolute paths changed to relative. A future release will perform these changes on the fly so that new versions of Strawberry Perl can be swapped in without redoing this manually. * |
