Hi all... After browsing the help files and the forum, I can't quite find an answer to my specific situation...

I'd like to use AVG's email scanner with my installs of POPfile and Thunderbird, but I'm not sure how to set it up. Here's my layout.

My system (running AVG and Thunderbird) is on 192.168.0.2, while POPfile is running on my house server at 192.168.0.4 (port 8110). That part works fine.

BUT, how can I configure Thunderbird to go through AVG, and THEN through POPfile when I check my mail?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I think all you need to do is slightly adapt the suggestions I made in these threads:

Help with AVG, GMAIL and POPFILE combined

Your current POPFile setup is like this:

      Thunderbird -- local network -- POPFile -- internet -- ISP's mail server

and you want to add AVG into the chain to scan your mail after it has been classified by POPFile (I'm assuming you do not want to run AVG on the system where POPFile is running).

To do this I think you need to use AVG EMS to make a new server just like AVG recommend for SSL links but without the SSL part enabled. Define this new AVG EMS scanner to access POPFile as the "fixed host". Then insert this into the POP3 proxy chain like this:

Thunderbird -- AVG EMS -- local network -- POPFile -- internet -- ISP's mail server

The AVG web site has a FAQ showing how to create a new email scanner server:
